TO BLOG OR NOT TO BLOG

'Building an empire...one letter in front of the other.” - Coco Ginger

WHAT IS A BLOG?

Believe it or not, but this is one of the most common questions regarding blogging. I know I have asked this question numerous times before. But now I am here to tell you exactly what a blog is.

A blog is webpage that is a unique representation of an individual. It contains chunks of information prepared by an author for your benefit. It consists of regular posts typically displayed in reverse chronological order. Blogs are generally written by one person, however a recent development has shown an increase in multi-author blogs (MAB's) Blogs normally cover a wide range of topics from recipes, animals to photography. Name it and it is most likely been written about in a blog.

There are different types of blogs:
Personal
Business
School
Political

WHAT ROLE DOES BLOGGING PLAY IN SOCIETY TODAY?

Blogging has become a prominent thing for users of the internet. It is a way for the users to be unique, creative and get their ideas and thoughts out to a larger audience who share common interests with them.

WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR BLOGGERS AND BLOGS?

Blogging is a significant feature of the internet and according to Howard Rheingold, blogging promotes that blogging and virtual communities assist with positive mental health and well-being. Blogging encourages interaction and gives people a sense of belonging. Many people learn from the different blogs that are provided as there is such a diverse range of blogs from topic A - Z. Blogging will continue to be an important part of internet culture in the future.

VIRTUAL COMMUNITY

Howard Rheingold coined the term Virtual Community. A virtual community is a social network where individuals communicate and interact through social media sites.

Virtual communities are in many different forms such as message boards on forums, online chat rooms and virtual worlds in such mass multiplayer games like World of Warcraft.

Virtual communities have brought people together over the past decade as internet has become more prominent in society today.

This is great. I did a trial and error blog as I have no idea what I am doing. Your presentation and content have helped me to understand this blogging business a little more. Well done. Cheers Nikki

  3. Hi Kristy,
Great looking blog! I also went with a book background but yours is much prettier. I like that you have used clearly defined headings so the time-conscious person can pick out exactly what they want to read. It's funny that you should start off your first piece with 'what is a blog?'. I told my mum one day that I love to follow food blogs, and from that point on, every website became a blog. (Every video is also a 'YouTube') hahaha
